Why theblood exists

You are not alone. We listen.

For too long, menstrual blood has been discarded and symptoms have been dismissed. We believe it deserves serious research and that every person deserves to be heard. By joining early, you help make menstrual health history with us.

01

Collect at home

An active member receives a new kit each paid quarter once available locally. The price includes the kit, outbound and return shipping, and lab analysis.

02

Receive lab values

We plan to measure AMH, FSH and HbA1c from menstrual blood, subject to validation and the final CE-marked intended use.

03

See your context in the app

Your report is planned to explain those values alongside cycle length, pain, bleeding and clots that you record yourself. It may help you discuss concerns with a clinician; it will not diagnose PCOS, infertility or perimenopause.

A note for members

Expert group sessions are included. Want to go deeper? Additional 1:1 appointments with selected specialists from our network can be booked separately. You can join from anywhere in the world. The test kit is planned to launch in Germany first (expected 03/2027), followed by Austria, Switzerland and more European countries step by step. Your next €69 is only charged 3 months after your kit ships.

What you can already notice

A vital sign
you can actually see.

Your menstrual cycle is often described as a fifth vital sign. Your period is the part you can observe yourself — and changes in it are worth noticing.

01

Pain

How strong is it — and does it change your day?

02

Flow

How much do you bleed — and for how many days?

03

Clots

Do you notice them — and are they getting larger or more frequent?

04

Timing

How long is your cycle — and how regular is your own pattern?

Same family · different periods

Your period is personal.

Katharina and Alexandra are sisters, three years apart. They share family history, but their periods can still look and feel very different. That is the point: family history can add context, but your own pattern is the baseline that matters.

Look closer

What you can see is only the first layer.

Pain, flow, clots and timing tell you what your period feels and looks like. Menstrual blood gives us another layer to study: the biological material inside it.

WHAT YOU TRACKPain · Flow · Clots · Timing
WHAT WE CAN STUDYEndometrial cells · Immune cells · Proteins & signaling molecules
That is why menstrual blood is exciting.

The test we are building is designed to go beyond symptoms and measure selected biomarkers in menstrual blood — adding another piece of context to what you already know about your period.

Questions & answers

Good questions.
Clear answers.

What do I get before the test kit arrives?

Access to our WhatsApp community, cycle tracking in the app and a new deep dive with a live workshop every month, starting with the founders in November.

When will the test kit be available?

We expect the first kits in Germany in 03/2027, followed by Austria, Switzerland and more European countries step by step. The kit needs regulatory approval first.

How does payment work?

You pay €69 today. Your next €69 is only charged 3 months after your first kit ships. After that, you pay €69 per quarter.

What does the founding-member price mean?

The first 1,000 members pay €69 per quarter instead of €99 and keep this price for life.

Can I join from outside Germany?

Yes. The membership, community and workshops are open worldwide. The test kit follows once it is available in your country.

What will the test measure?

We start with AMH, FSH and HbA1c and aim to add one new marker per quarter. Each marker speaks to one of your health areas: AMH to fertility, FSH to fertility and peri-/menopause, HbA1c to energy and blood sugar. With every new marker, you learn more about your body. The test gives you context, it does not diagnose conditions.

Can I cancel?

Yes, you can cancel anytime.

Is this scientifically grounded?

We developed a standardized pre-analytical method, the foundation that allows samples to be collected at home and reliably analyzed in the lab. The method is being validated together with SGS. A first study with the University of Rostock showed that vitamins A and D can be measured in menstrual blood (Whitbread et al., J Clin Med 2024). We’re at the beginning, and that’s exactly why we need you.

What happens to my data?

Your data belongs to you. We process it in accordance with the GDPR, store it on servers in the EU and only use it for research if you have given explicit consent.

Who benefits from my data?

You do first. Until now, mostly labs and pharma companies profited from health data. With theblood, your data only goes into research with your consent, stays pseudonymized or anonymized, and you share in the results.

Can I take part in research?

Yes, if you want to. You decide whether to release your sample for a specific research project. Beforehand, you receive all the information about the study: what it’s about, who’s involved and what happens to your sample. No sample is used without your explicit consent. If your sample goes into a project, you receive compensation of up to €250. The exact amount is shared with you before you consent.

Who is the membership for?

For everyone aged 18 and over who menstruates and wants to understand their body better and help shape research in women’s health.

I have another question.

Write to us at hello@theblood.io. We’ll reply personally.
